In honor of Black History Month we will be having a contest built upon various facts we will be putting on the Gift Within A Card. The contest will be questions based on the facts listed and in a multiple choice format. We are working on the prizes now and will post the actual contest the last week of February!
Here are two Black History facts for (Feb 14 & 15)
Black History Month originated in 1926 by Carter Godwin Woodson as Negro History Week. The month of February was chosen in honor of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln (both born in February). – Supplied by Biography
Freedom Summer was a campaign in the United States launched during the summer of 1964 to attempt to register as many African American voters as possible in the Southern United States. One of the key contributors to Freedom Summer was Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer who played a key role in voting rights activism.
A famous quote by Mrs. Hamer is ““Nobody’s free until everybody’s free”. In honor of Random Acts of Kindness week take this quote to encourage you to do something nice for others — for we all make this world!
